About the Book
Zahrat al-Tafasir
One of the most significant modern tafsir works in the Arabic language, Zahrat al-Tafasir is the encyclopaedic commentary on the Quran by Imam Muhammad Abu Zuhra, running to seventeen volumes. The work combines rigorous linguistic analysis, jurisprudential reasoning, and engagement with the classical tafsir tradition, reflecting Abu Zuhra's formation across multiple Islamic sciences and his ability to synthesise scholarship with clarity.
Distinguished by its attention to the legal dimensions of Quranic interpretation and its comparative engagement with the positions of the four major legal schools, Zahrat al-Tafasir stands as a monument of modern Quranic scholarship. Written by one of the foremost Islamic scholars of the twentieth century, it remains a primary reference for students and researchers in Quranic studies.
Imam Muhammad Abu Zahrah (1316–1394 AH / 1898–1974 CE) was one of the most prolific and influential Islamic scholars of the twentieth century. Born in Egypt, he studied at Al-Azhar and went on to become a professor at the Faculty of Law at Cairo University. Deeply rooted in the Hanafi school, he wrote authoritatively across Islamic jurisprudence, theology, Quranic sciences, and the history of Islamic thought. His works on the major scholars and legal schools of Islam remain standard references in the field.
Published by Dar Sa'd Al-Din under their own imprint in seventeen volumes.
