About the Book

Sharh 'Awamil al-Birgawi

A commentary on the al-Awamil al-Mi'ah al-Birgawiyyah, the hundred governing factors in Arabic grammar as compiled by the Ottoman scholar Birgili Mehmed Efendi (Imam al-Birgawi, 929–981 AH / 1523–1573 CE). Al-Awamil deals with the factors that govern grammatical case endings (i'rab) in Arabic, building on the original treatise of 'Abd al-Qahir al-Jurjani.

The commentary by Mulla 'Isam al-Din al-Is'ardi provides detailed explanatory notes that make the grammatical principles accessible to students at the early stages of formal Arabic study. This text became widely used in traditional madrasa education across the Ottoman world and its successor scholarly traditions.
