Imam 'Adud al-Din al-Iji

Imam 'Adud al-Din 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ahmad al-Iji (680–756 AH / 1281–1355 CE) was one of the foremost scholars of Sunni scholastic theology (kalam) in the classical period. Born in Ij near Shiraz in Persia, he was a Shafi'i jurist and Ash'ari theologian who served as chief judge. His masterwork al-Mawaqif fi 'Ilm al-Kalam is among the most comprehensive treatments of scholastic theology in the Islamic tradition, generating extensive commentary and remaining a core reference text in the kalam curriculum for centuries.
