About the Book

Majmuʻat Rasaʻil Taj al-Shariʻah al-Azhari

A collection of shorter scholarly treatises by Imam Muhammad Akhtar Rida al-Qadiri al-Azhari, widely known by his honorific Taj al-Shariʻah (Crown of the Shariʻah), the great grandson of Imam Ahmad Raza Khan and the foremost Hanafi scholarly authority of the Barelwi tradition in the modern era. The collection brings together his shorter treatises on matters of theology, jurisprudence, and the scholarly defence of the classical Sunni tradition.

Taj al-Shariʻah combined his formation in the South Asian Hanafi tradition with Azhari scholarly credentials, and his treatises reflect both dimensions of his learning. This collection, prepared by Shiraz Ahmad al-Nizami al-Azhari and published by Dar al-Malik in a second edition under the auspices of Majmaʻ al-Imam Ahmad Rida lil-Buhuth wal-Dirasat al-Islamiyyah, makes the shorter works of this major twentieth-century scholar available in a single accessible volume.
